How did I get interested in the issue of anti-NATO resistance in Serbia [Yugoslavia]

Couple of days ago, on the 14th anniversary of NATO's bombing of the train on Grdelica gorge, there was an interesting discussion on my friend's Facebook wall revolving around imperialism, NATO, failure of the left, similarities and differences among the cases of Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Libya and Syria, which was triggered by Sukant Chandan's article: "Patrick Cockburn bemoans Libyan disaster, but was very quiet as the disaster was unfolding"
Nato hit an international train, on regular service from Belgrade to Thessaloniki (Greece), in the vicinity of Leskovac. Dozen[No one knows the precise number]  passengers were killed, including a 10 year-old child. More than 30 passengers were wounded. All casualties were civilians.
There were some interesting comments there, some of them published in Sons of Malcolm subsequent post: "Before nATO attack on Libya, Afghanistan: There was Yugoslavia 1999"

This time I would like to share with you one comment in particular that was, in fact, an answer to
Sukant's question:
Chris Natural, how did you get interested in the issue around anti-nato resistance in Serbia/Yugoslavia?

Chris Natural:
How did I get interested? How do any of us get interests in such matters?
For myself, I guess from a lifetime of questioning our motives everywhere. A strong feeling of right and wrong. Which seemed to be in my blood from birth for reasons unknown.

I remember as a nine year old being one of very few speaking out against Thatcher during my junior school vote on the eve of the '79 election. Not because of any encouragement from my folks (at this time we rarely spoke about politics, though they had an interest).

Depleted Uranium weapons are nuclear weapons!

German physician Professor Dr. Günther was the first in the world, to bring forward proof that depleted uranium weapons (bullets, shells and bombs) are nuclear weapons.

In the early 90s, inside his diplomats’ luggage, he managed to bring in some of these DU ballistics over from Iraq and arranged their investigation at three research institutes in Germany, which confirmed his suspicions that NATO had used nuclear weapons in the Gulf War!

Irak-Krieg atomare Waffen eingesetzt hatte !

War in Yugoslavia: The Croatian invasion of Serbian Krajina

Ethnic Cleansing is a process in which advancing army of one ethnic group expels civilians of other ethnic groups from towns and villages it conquers in order to create ethnically pure enclaves for members of their ethnic group.

The Invasion of Serbian Krajina
by Greg Elich
[Mr. Elich is a freelance scholar who has written extensively about Yugoslavia.]

In early August 1995, the Croatian invasion of Serbian Krajina precipitated the worst refugee crisis of the Yugoslav civil war. Within days, more than two hundred thousand  [200 000] Serbs, virtually the entire population of Krajina, fled their homes, and 14,000 Serbian civilians lost their lives.[this is Greg Elich's estimation, we can not confirm or refute this claim] According to a UN official "Almost the only people remaining were the dead and the dying." The Clinton administration's support for the invasion was an important factor in creating this nightmare.

Zivka Mijic, 46, talks about her family's narrow escape from Croatia in the Balkan War. She and her family now live in Stickney. (Zbigniew Bzdak, Chicago Tribune / September 5, 2010)

Zivka Mijic doesn't burden people with her troubles — which would be impractical anyway, unless the other person spoke Serbian — but she does want the tragic story of what brought her family to a Chicago suburb told in federal court.

WARNING! Very Graphic Content: The Real Srebrenica Genocide

Since this post appears to have recieved a lot of attention these last couple of days and not all visitors look at the comment section bellow, the administration of this blog wishes to make it absolutely clear that the following article does not reflect Serbia SOS opinion on the isssues mentioned in it, such as the Jewish-Palestinian conflict or Muslims in general. So let me rephrase what I already answered to one of the comments bellow: We reposted this  from American Defence League because those pictures of Serbian victims are important documents from that war and here at Serbia SOS we try to gather as much of documents regarding our people and that horible war, as we can. We are not against Islam or any other religion and we believe that there are moderate Muslims, just like there are moderate Christians, Jews etc. Just like that, there are extremists on all sides, misinterpreting religion for their selfish or missguided purposes. One could easily look at photographs of what the French colonialists did to Algerians back in 1945 and see photos very similar to those you will see in this post. Can we therefore label all Christians genocidal or extremists? What we see here, in these photographs were acts of extremists and they don't burden the entirety of Muslim people, just like the acts of violence committed by Serbian extremists in that war do not represent all the Serbs. Crimes were committed on all sides, but what we are trying to do here is to balance the media falsification of that war which painted only the Serbs and all of Serbs as Nazis and criminals, by showing our victims too and talking about the historical and political context of this violent dismemberment of Yugoslavia. No one wins in this kind of conflict even if one side seams to be the favored one in the media, because we are all connected and if we harm one person it will bounce back on us.
The Real Srebrenica Genocide
What is this monument inscribed in Arabic script doing in Srebrenica
(Potocari village), Bosnia?
Introduction by Nathan Pearlstein
Why are the mainstream Western media, the US administrations under George W. Bush and Bill Clinton as well as the governments of NATO and the EU covering up this monumental crime against humanity?
Why are the Serbs – whom apart from the Jews were the major victims of the Holocaust during World War 2 - being cast as the perpetrators of genocide while the real perpetrators of genocide – the Islamofascists loyal to Alija Izetbegovic – are being cast by the corporate media, the US, NATO and EU governments as “the victims”?

History: Josip Broz Tito & 25th of May - Youth Day "Dan Mladosti"

Tito’s Followers Mark His Birthday [25 May 12 ]
Despite the rain, communist era Yugoslav flags flew as the sounds of the traditional tune 'Druze Tito Mi Ti Se Kunemo' [Comrade Tito, We Pledge Our Allegiance] blared over loudspeakers. Hundreds of people from all over the Balkans cheerfully joined in the celebration, with many wearing badges and shirts with Tito's portrait.[1 ]

Josip Broz Tito -   President of Yugoslavia from 14 January 1953 till 4 May 1980

25th of May - Youth Day "Dan Mladosti"
Youth Day (Dan Mladosti in Serbo-Croatian) was celebrated throughout Yugoslavia on May 25. This was also a official celebration of Josip Broz Tito's birthday. [Actually he is born  on 07. May 1892]
In the weeks preceding the date youth ran a relay around the country and on his birthday Tito was ceremonially presented with the baton. The baton, which had passed through all major cities, contained a symbolic birthday message, ostensibly from the youth of the whole country.

IN RETROSPECTIVE: SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC’S ADDRESS TO THE NATION

Regardless of our opinion about Slobodan Milosevic now, 12 years after his overthrow on October 5, 2000 or our feelings about him back then, this speech is an important historical document as well as an important warning to people living in Serbia and in other former Republics of Yugoslavia. It is also a must read for people in Arab countries that were recently a stage for the so called "Arab Spring". I doubt that young people in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya or Syria are ready to hear this message now, but I hope some of them will take time to learn from the past events in this once grand country that is now reduced to what Milosevic described in this speech: National humiliation, state fragmentation and social misery...

Belgrade - October 2, 2000

Honored citizens,

In the expectation of a second round of election, I'd like to take the opportunity to explain my views on the political situation in our country, especially in Serbia. As you know, efforts have been underway for a whole decade to put the whole Balkan Peninsula under the control of certain Western powers. A big part of that job was accomplished by establishing puppet governments in some countries, by transforming them into countries with limited sovereignty or no sovereignty at all.

Because we resisted, we have been subjected to all the pressures that can be applied to people in today's world. The number and intensity of these pressures multiplied as time went by.
